I love this show, the best part is watching Mum having a nervous break down. She
worries about everything. This time it was that one of the guys - Alvin could only come
for one day. She doesn't realise that the others are so use to setting up and running the
layout that when one person goes missing, no one notices that they are not there.
We got to Toowoomba late on Friday afternoon. Mum had to work in the morning which
meant a late start for us. Once we found where we were supposed to set up, and got
someone to move their car, we unloaded the car and the trailer. We had no problems in
setting things up and had everything running by about 9.00pm. All that was left to do in
the morning was to tidy up, put the curtains up and to run trains.
Saturday 14th. - I spent the morning setting up my Tomy trains so Mum and Dad had
something to play with while I ran my trains on the layout. We decided on running a
mixture of Digital and Analog at this show but we kept on having problems with the circuit
breakers tripping. It kept the guys on their toes in resetting them and making sure the
public didn't notice.
There is a lot to see at this show, so if I wasn't looking, I was doing public relations
work with my Mum or I was running trains on our layout and other clubs layouts. The latter
much to my mum worry; I wish she wouldn't tell them to send me back if I cause to much
trouble; doesn't she trust me; what is she going to be like when I'm six.
We didn't go to the Saturday night dinner; we decided instead to go to sizzlers. This
allows us to get away from the trains for a while, and then it was back to the hotel to
watch television and to have a break. Alvin also turned up so the full team was there for
Sunday.
Sunday 15th - Yes we still had problems with the circuit breakers tripping, so there
was a lot of trains stopping, a yell of "who did it" or "what did you do now, Alvin?",
"Not me, it must be something you did." and so on. Don't we love it - I do because for
once I'm not getting the blame.
A first for me at this show, I got to run my first Digital train. Matthew and I took
over the layout; I did really well for my first go, I didn't crash the train and I kept
it at the right distance from Matthews.
With the show over, we pulled down the layout quicker than normal. We would have gotten
away earlier but the guys decided to chat; how unusual, they ONLY had two whole days to
do that. The cold air moved in and we called it a day, we got home safely and Mum started
to worry again about the next show. I know what I'm going to buy her for Christmas - hair
dye for the grey hairs from worrying.
