THE VALLEY FIELD DAY, WALLOON SCHOOL - 24th May 2003.
We were the only model train display at this show.
What started off about ten years ago as a school fete has turned into
a full-blown country show. You can buy anything from lollies to tractors,
pot plants to cars. They also have animals and government displays
there for you to see. I like the Jack Russell's dog races - it is
like watching a smaller version of a Grey Hound race.
We were in the library at this show, so we only had a small "L" shaped
layout. We also had the computer set up in front of it so we could
watch dvd's and to play the Microsoft Train Simulator and the Australian
made Tranz Train Simulator games. We use this show to iron out any
bugs in the layout before we take it to Toowoomba.
On the Friday night set up we had troubles; we forgot the track joiners
and Dad had to go back to Grandad's place to get them. Dad then had
to workout what cable went where and what was causing the short circuit
problems. Once he sorted it all out things went smoothly.
Saturday - We got there early and for once no rain. Every time this
show is on it rains, its windy and its cold. This year no rain, some
wind and only cool; it confused my poor mum cause she had so many
jumpers in the car, it looked as if we were going to the snow. All
went really well, the layout operated with very little problems. The
only thing we did notice was that the scenery needs doing up cause
the modules are starting to look ratty and tired.
