Press Release for Sunday 17/12/2006
Q.R.I. Ipswich Heritage Model Railway Club
- Cleans up big !!!.

It´s a big job getting the Ipswich Heritage Model Railway Club situated in the Tool and Gauge workshop in the old railway workshops, at North St, North Ipswich, in tip top order for a super opening and birthday celebration later in 2007. It´s a project that needs expertise from the top. Thats why the Mayor Cr Paul Pisasale, and Cr Cheryl Bromage (Division 6) have been recruited to the team by club members to give the area the biggest face lift it has seen in 50 years. Sunday is the day, and dirt, dust, cobwebs, spiders and (we think) possibly snakes, are the order of the day.

The face lift will be a cooperative venture with the council, Queensland Government, and the Greater Ipswich Community

"We´re not here to throw out history or change the place, but to clear and reorganise the area to accommodate some of the biggest train sets in the district." said Bruce McDonnell, Club President. "We will incorporate storage area, club members work areas, areas for static railway and model displays, train simulations, test layout and model configurations, as well as a club meeting and social area. We are very spoilt, we have a hot luncheon at every club meeting. But we see that as important to encourage the family friendly club atmosphere which makes the club a great place to be." said Bruce.

The club members are working with the local councillors to take the first step in creating a great place with atmosphere, and a true feel of hobby and railway. Mayor Paul, who is patron of the club, said "This Club is a great place, and has a welcoming atmosphere that contributes to the family friendly atmosphere of our city. It´s a place for young and old alike, a place where everyone is important and needed.

Cr Cheryl Bromage said "I am proud that the club is situated in my division (6), as it sends a warm welcoming message out to the Ipswich Community. This is a place where we can be young again and share that with the youth of our City."

Bruce McDonnell, is summing up the focus of the cleanup and future direction said "this giant cleanup is only stage one. In itself it has been an enjoyable and worthwhile exercise. Wait for the announcement of the grand opening - You havent seen anything yet. We will create a place that will encourage friendship, respect, common interests, and a chance to enjoy family friendly life in Ipswich."
